Claregalway 1-16 Kilconly 1-9

Our Junior Team rounded the 2017 Football year with a deserved win over Kilconly in Tuam today. This team played their last league game on July 23rd, couldn’t field a team for a championship game v Renvyle over the summer and the delay in playing the Final even got a mention on the tripe social media outlet- SportsJoe.ie.

Kilconly opened brightly and scored the first 2 points inside 4 minutes. We slowly got into the game and our forwards started to click. K. Grainger was winning plenty of ball at corner forward and curled over a couple to start the scoreboard clicking. Scores from Brion Connolly 2, Fergal 2 from placed balls, Michael McGarry and D. Loftus who started the game at midfield despite wearing No. 3. We led at half time 9-2

As in the first half , Kilconly kicked 4 points in a row and had momentum kicking into the town goals. A good build up saw Keelin take the sensible option and tapped over when maybe a goal was on. Momentum shifted and we pushed on. A goal for Kilconly narrowed the margin but in a well worked move M.McGarry was taken down for a penalty. Young Grainger slotted the ball with a nice left footed dink and it was time to give the subs a run.

The team were well marshelled and at the back, D. Loftus & B.Connolly added good pace at midfield and K.Grainger ended up with 1-6.

Former Galway Goalie (and victim of an audacious effort from Barney Rock) Paraic Coyne presented the Cup to JP and the Man of the Match to Keelan. A long season has come to an end and the effort by players and Management has been rewarded.

Happy Xmas.
