Welcome to Claregalway GAA and LGFA

It gives us great pleasure as members to welcome you to Claregalway GAA and LGFA’s website. Claregalway GAA and LGFA is more than just a Gaelic Football Club, where children learn to enjoy, where teenagers learn to compete and where our adult teams compete to win. Our Club has its roots planted deep within the local community where football teams have represented the parish since the 1940’s.The Club since its earliest days has passed on a powerful ethos and atmosphere of friendship and inclusivity to all. The local population has almost trebled since the first teams were affiliated in the 1960’s and that warm extension of the genuine “Cead Mile Failte” has embraced all those from whatever background or creed who have come to settle in the area and make their lives here over the decades.

Our Club has had remarkable success on the playing fields. The investment of previous generations in high coaching and childcare standards have come to fruition. Our Successes include a Minor A County Title, an All Ireland Boys Feile, All Ireland Ladies Intermediate, County Intermediate Title and countless underage Boys and Girls underage County titles. All this success is a testament to the high standards engaged in our Coaching structures where more than 40 coaches are now Garda vetted and have basic coaching and childcare qualifications. We regard this “labor of love” between our Coaches and the development of the boys and girls placed in their care, as what defines us as an inclusive and forward-thinking GAA Club in the modern era.
Our aim is to give maximum expression to the natural talents of our young people while they learn to respect the rich traditions of the area, develop a pride in their own place and an understanding of their unique identity as Claregalway People (“The Balchies“).

A Role for everyone.

Today we field boys and girls teams in over 200 matches per year. Our boys and girls teams compete in A grade competitions at every age group from U 6 to Minor. Most age groups have more than one team so there’s a “game for everyone in Claregalway “.Our adult Mens and Ladies teams compete strongly now in Under 21, Junior and Senior Competitions. All of this growth and activity cannot be maintained without constant investment in our Facilities in Knockdoemore and Lakeview, where we have 2 Clubhouses and four pitches to maintain and develop. We are always active in updating and improving our Coaching standards.

We need you!

All of our playing and day to day activities are sustained and funded by the efforts of our volunteers. Our Committees and Coaching Groups need new Members and Officers all the time. Play your part in our future by joining the Club and volunteering at any level. Our Future depends on your efforts!
