Ladies football in Claregalway began in 2002, with the first training session taking place on April 28th of that year with just six girls in attendance. Since then, the club has grown at a remarkable pace — from entering two teams at Under 14 and Under 16 level in 2003, to now fielding multiple teams across the grades.
Claregalway LGFA is committed to promoting women in sport at every level, with strong participation in initiatives such as Gaelic for Girls and Gaelic for Mothers & Others, ensuring football is accessible to all within the community.
The club has enjoyed significant success across all grades, capturing County Division 1 titles up to and including Minor level. At national level, Claregalway Under 14 teams claimed the Division 1 Féile titles in 2010 and 2011, along with Kilmacud Crokes Sevens victories in 2007, 2011 and 2017.
More recently, the club reached another major milestone when the Under 15 girls were crowned All-Ireland Féile Champions in 2025, reflecting the continued strength and progress of ladies football in Claregalway.
Claregalway achieved Senior status in 2013 following victory in the All-Ireland Intermediate Championship, and today players from the club proudly represent Galway at all levels from underage through to senior.
