Club Notes Week Ending 22nd October 2023

Ladies:

Last Sunday evening we got together in the Claregalway Hotel to celebrate some incredible sports women, role models for the generations of young girls following in their footsteps and looking up to them, as they lead the way with grace, courage and bravery.  They may not have won the county final this year but they more than played their part and we are so, so proud to have them as Ambassadors of our club and the game.

Some belated presentations took place to our Players of the Year for 2021 & 2022 and a very special award for Gerry Moran for his years of contribution to Claregalway GAA. Gerry’s service to the club has been exceptional and we all wish to thank him for all of his work over the years!

Under 13 Skills:

Our Under 13 team recently competed in the Under 13 skills competition in Loughgeorge. We finished 1st out of 18 teams in Galway and now qualify for the Connacht Final on the 27th of October. Well done to the lads and best of luck to them in the Connacht Finals!

Well done to Luke Fitzmaurice, Aaron Madden, Ronan Meehan and Conor O’Callaghan who put in all the hard work and their coaches who have helped them along since Under 6 level!

Season Wrap Ups:

Our Under 9’s were invited by Salthill Knocknacarra GAA Club to play a blitz in the Dome today. The lads had a great day! Thanks to the coaches for organising the lads so well and to Salthill Knocknacarra for the invite!

Thanks to Milltown GAA for their hospitality in hosting this great event for our Under 14’s last weekend.

Our Under 12’s wrapped up their season in the Connacht GAA centre of excellence last weekend in Bekan.

A great experience for the lads in a fantastic facility, they played some great football with some great moves and scores.

Our Under 10 girls finished their season with a blitz against Breaffy and Westport in Ballyheane and then on to Westport House for fun and games!

Our Under 10 boys team wrapped up over the past weekend also with some hot chocolate and treats in Knockdoemore provided by Treat Café.

Our Under 8 girls finished off a great season with fancy dress football under lights in Knockdoemore on Friday 13th October.

At this juncture, all our youth training and activities have concluded for the year. Throughout the past year, our juvenile players have created wonderful memories while building friendships, honing their skills, and having a great time.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude, as always, to our dedicated team of coaches who have diligently organised training sessions, matches, and, of course, end-of-year events. These volunteers shoulder a considerable workload to provide an environment where our young members can thrive and develop. We are truly fortunate to have such an outstanding group of coaches within our club.

We’d also like to express our appreciation to the parents who consistently show their support by bringing their children to training and matches and by positively cheering from the sidelines.

Lastly, we want to thank all our juvenile players. We eagerly anticipate witnessing your accomplishments, both on and off the field, in the upcoming year and look forward to welcoming them all back in 2024!
