Club Notes Week Ending 28th July 2024

Proud:

We wish that the result had been different, we wish we had Sam back over the Shannon but it wasn’t to be this time.

Well done to Armagh GAA and all involved in GAA in their county for their win over the weekend.

It wasn’t to be for the Maroon and White but it wasn’t for lack of effort or preparation. Years of hard work have gone into today from the players and all that have been involved with them.

Thanks to all of them for their dedication and committment to the county and to all those volunteers who give their time and effort daily to enrich the GAA in Galway.

Jack and Conor, well done – you’ve done us proud with your representation and how you’ve handled everything this year – keep up the great work and thanks for representing us and being great role models for our younger players!

There will be other opportunities!!

Best wishes – Ladies All Ireland Final:

Huge thanks to our Senior players involved in the Ladies All Ireland Final next weekend and their manager Fergal for coming to our juvenile training session on Saturday. They are excellent role models for our younger players. We wish Eimíle, Leah, Andrea, Charlotte, Éabha, their team and management, the very best of luck on August 4th as they take on Kerry at 4:15 in Croke Park!

We are looking forward to a great game and watching the Galway girls in action!!

We are hoping as many players from the club get to Croke park to cheer on the ladies!

Gaillimh Abu!

LGFA 50th Celebrations:

On Saturday 20th July as part of our LGFA 50th Birthday Celebrations we welcomed West Clare Gaels, Annaghdown and Corofin to Knockdoemore for U8, U10 & U12 Blitzes.

To kick off the morning, we made a presentation to Frank Kearney who is now Galway LGFA President and was one of the founding members of Galway LGFA in 1974. Maura Murphy our Club Chairperson presented Frank with a beautiful gift to commemorate the occasion.

Then onto the blitz where our U8’s played games against West Clare Gaels and Corofin, Our U10s had Annaghdown and West Clare Gaels to contend with and our U12 Orange team also had a game against West Clare Gaels.

Over 160 girls competed on Saturday and we couldn’t be prouder of every one of them. Great games, good fun, finished off with a feast of treats. A well organised event highlighting the amazing

facilities and huge thanks goes to everyone who played their part in making this day a huge success. We had food supplied by parents, coaches and others, support from an amazing group of young referees, huge help from committee members (you know who you are) and an amazing group of coaches who give their time willingly to ensure the girls are front and centre. A huge “Thank You” to all from the Claregalway Juvenile Girls Committee

Galway Masters:

Hard luck to the Galway masters who lost out to Roscommon in Lakeview on the 20th of July.We we were well represented by Hiker, Locks & Red who have been playing with the Masters all year!

Under 14 Girls Cup:

Our U14 Division 1 team played in the Cup Final on Saturday the 13th against Tuam Cortoon in Tuam. This was a very competitive game and was end to end with great scores from both teams. Claregalway finished up victorious on the day but this was a game that could have gone either way right up to the final quarter. Well done to the Claregalway girls but also to a well coached and strong Tuam Cortoon team on a very entertaining and nail biting match.

Our Division 5 team were out in the Shield final against An Spideal. It was not to be their day but a fantastic team performance. Well done to all involved.
