Under 20 North Board Final Match Report

Claregalway 3-16 Corofin 2-13

U20’s captured the North Board Championship after extra time in an entertaining game of football in Tuam Stadium on the last day in November. Earlier wins over Monivea and Annaghdown saw us pitted against the men from Corofin

A couple of late changes saw D.Loftus in for our injured No.6 M.Kilgannon, C.Walshe drafted into Midfield and Captain B.Connolly moving to No.12. A bright opening saw scores from D.Mullin,L.Roache,P.Commins and the lively N.Grainger and it was score for score for the rest of the half. We went in at halftime leading 0-8 to 0-4.

The second half saw us press on and after a goal from one of our livewire players in the full forward line and further points from C.Campbell,M.King and J.Reilly we led 1-13 to 0-8. Both sides missed goal chances but a late surge from Corofin saw them draw level with a last gasp goal and we wondered had we missed our chance of capturing our first U20 A North Board Title. Fulltime Claregalway 1-13 Corofin 2-10

In extra time our young men dug deep and scored 2-3 to Corofin 0-3 to claim the spoils and qualify for a County Final V Salthill/Knocknacarra. Our goals coming from Jack Glynn and Harry O`Gorman. This Team has showed great character and resilience all the way up from U14 and quite a few have experienced Senior Football already.

There were many solid performances throughout the field with our backs tenacious, we won good primary possession around the middle of the field and the driving runs from J.Reilly and the finishing from N.Grainger worthy of a mention. Great to see Barry Callinan & Luke Roache back to their form prior to their injuries.

Everyone within the Club needs to get behind this group of lads and get our flags ready for the County Final. Well done to the Management Team and Sponsors

Man of the Match shared D.Whelan & N.Grainger
