Claregalway Girls Crowned Champions in Feile
Claregalway’s young footballers enjoyed a phenomenal weekend in Derry, emerging victorious after a series of thrilling performances against top-class opposition.
Placed in a tough group, Claregalway overcame transatlantic visitors New York (2-02 to 1-03), MKL Gaels of Kerry (0-05 to 0-00), and local favourites Ballinderry Shamrocks (0-07 to 0-06), earning a well-deserved place in the semi-final. There, they saw off St Sylvester’s in a tightly contested match (2-03 to 1-04), before facing Ballinderry once again in a high-stakes final.
In front of a passionate home crowd, Claregalway delivered a superb team performance to win the decider 2-08 to 1-06 and lift the cup.
The team was proudly supported throughout by The Fancy Nest (Dee & John Clarke), Medtronic (Teresa Tarrant), DM Hose Repair (Dave & Astrid O’Muireadhaigh), Sweeney’s Pharmacy (Petrina Sweeney), Dawnlough Engineering (Brian McKeon) and several generous anonymous donors – sincere thanks to all.
The girls returned home to a hero’s welcome on Sunday evening, parading the cup proudly across the Claregalway bridge, greeted by proud families, supporters, and much celebration.
A heartfelt thank you to the girls’ families and their coaches for their work and support, and to the girls themselves for their dedication and commitment.
