Minor Ladies make Club History

Result : 3-10 - 2-8
Match : A Championship County Final
Date : Sunday, 7th March 2010
Venue : Belclare

Claregalway met Corofin for the long awaited 2009 Championship Final On Sunday 7th March.  This much anticipated encounter between two strong rivals did not disappoint with a well matched battle from the throw in.  


Claregalway played into the breeze in the first half and used this to good advantage finishing 7 points up at the break with a scoreline of 2-7 to 2.0.  In the second half, Corofin started the strongest and brought the score to within one point with under 10 minutes to go, however, a late goal and a point from Claregalway sealed a fantastic victory.  The Final score was 3-10 to 2-8.


Pairic Neenan from Galway Ladies County Board was on hand to present the Cup to Fabienne Cooney, Claregalway Captain and Tara Hession was named Player of the Match for her outstanding performance.  


It was a brilliant performance all round from the entire panel who were; Michelle Dunleavy, Siofra Leonard, Emer Joyce, Charlotte Cooney,  Amy Rohan, Deirdre Brennan, Tara Hession, Aislinn Newell, Nicola Conlon, Jennifer O’Dowd, Mairead Linnane Fabienne Cooney, Captain, Lorraine Keane, Ciara Newell, Siobhan Cullen, Helen Moran, Sinead Harte, Georgina Healy, Asley O’Connell, Orla Dixon. Manager & Mentors; Barry Cooney, Manager,  Michael Kirwan Mentor, Gerry Moran, Rita Healy, Ann Moran and Mary Conlon.

 

This victory makes Club History as the first Ladies Minor Championship and brings to four, the number of Championship Trophies won by the Claregalway Ladies in 2009 with the U12’s, U14’s, U16’s winning their respective finals in 2009.  This is a fantastic achievement for all the panels involved and the many volunteers including Managers and Mentors who give so freely of their time throughout the year.
